H.S. SPORTS: Mount Carmel boys finish unbeaten cross country season

TURBOTVILLE - Mount Carmel Area's boys cross country team completed its season undefeated Tuesday by sweeping Warrior Run, 18-46, Central Columbia 15-50 and Montoursville 15-50, in a quadrangular meet at Warrior Run.

The Red Tornadoes took the top four spots with Nate Bartos, Tommy Moser, Ciaran Fisher and David Fletcher. Bartos' winning time was 16:55 and Moser was second in 17:16. Anthony Moser (eighth) completed the scoring.

Mount Carmel's girls were sweptby Central Columbiua, 22-35; Montoursville 18-45, and Warrior Run, 18-44.

MIFFLINBURG - Both the Shamokin boys and girls cross country teams failed to record a win at the Mifflinburg meet.

The girls team lost to Mifflinburg, 15-50; and to Jersey Shore, 15-50.

The boys team lost to Mifflinburg, 15-45; and to Jersey Shore, 15-47.

Shamokin girls finishers: 8. Christina Troutman 23:53. 15. Kendra Long 26:41.

Girls Soccer Mount Carmel 7 St. John Neumann 0

MOUNT CARMEL - Anna Zeluskey scored a goal and an assist, and six other players scored to lead the Red Tornadoes to a 7-0 win. The win was coach Rich Miller's 200th victory.

Sami Zigarski made three saves to earn the shutout for Mount Carmel.

HERNDON - The Eagles dominated every statistical category against the Buffaloes, but only scored one goal. It was enough for Line Mountain to earn the win.

Lauren Scheib scored seven minutes into the second period for the eventual game-winner. Kate Campbell made three saves for the shutout.

Volleyball Halifax 3, Shamokin 2

COAL TOWNSHIP - The Indians (3-8) fought back from two one-game deficits, but could not defeat earn the victory, falling to Halifax 3-2 (25-21, 9-25, 25-22, 15-25, 15-11).

Sofia Pearson had 14 kills, three digs and five aces, Sarah Popewaczak had 14 kills and Madison Rodarmel had 43 assists and seven aces.

JV: Halifax won 2-1 (9-25, 25-22, 25-16).

From Monday Boys Soccer St. John Neumann 6 Mount Carmel 1

MOUNT CARMEL - St. John Neumann scored a goal in the first minute and added five more to defeat the Red Tornadoes, 6-1.

Josh Ashbaugh scored the lone Mount Carmel goal on a penalty kick and made 19 saves in net.
