Anthracite Heritage Run/Walk Slated
COAL TOWNSHIP - Northumberland County Council for the Arts and Humanities along with the Brush Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the second annual Anthracite Heritage Festival of the Arts 5K Run/Walk, Saturday, May 28.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the race will start at 9 a.m. Starting location for the 3.1 mile race will be at Kemp Memorial Stadium at Shamokin Area High School. Race amenities include water stops, bathrooms, mile markers on the course, post race snacks and refreshments, professional chip timing with Fast Finishes and a listing of results posted online.
Entry fee for all runners and walkers is $15 each.
The first 150 participants will receive a gift card from Red Star Worldwear. The gift cards are a way to spread the word about Red Star sunglasses. Only entrants pre-registered by May 6 were guaranteed to receive a piece of Anthracite Coal, a T-Shirt and goody bag.
Proceeds will benefit the Anthracite Heritage Festival of the Arts.
There will be seven age groups for the race: 14-and-under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60-and-over. Awards will be given to the first overall male and female of the race and the first-, second- and third-place finishers for the males and females in each age group.
Donations including items for the goody bags are still being accepted for this event.
