SYGBL Awards Night

Pitch, Hit and Run Competition

Cabrini Baseball Organization is hosting a free Aquafina Major League Baseball pitch, hit and run competition for area youth has been rescheduled for Sunday, May 1 at the Cabrini Baseball Complex in the Springfield section of Coal Township. Competition will be in four age groups: 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14, with the opportunity to advance through four levels of competition, including team championships at Major League parks and the national finals at the 2011 MLB All-Star Game. Individual pitching, hitting and running champions, along with all-around champion in each age group at the local competition will advance to the sectional level of competition. Participants must provide a copy of their birth certificate and fill out a registration/waiver form prior to the start of competition. Mount Carmel Area Wellness Activities

The Mount Carmel Area School District is making some of its facilities available to the general public. On Sundays, the elementary gym will be open for basketball for students between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. for a cost of $2, and for adults between 6:30 and 8 p.m. for a cost of $4 per person. There will also be an open swim at the pool on Sundays from 6 to 8 p.m. for all ages. Cost is $2 for students and $4 for adults. Elementary students must be accompanied by a parent for Sunday events. Stationary bike riding will be held for high school students from 2:30 to 3 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, and for community members from 6-6:45 p.m. on Tuesdays. The program is sponsored by Highmark Healthy High 5. The stadium track will be closed to walkers until the renovations are complete.

Anthracite Heritage Festival 5K Run or Walk

Saturday, May 28 at Shamokin Area's Kemp Memorial Stadium. Registration for the 3.1 mile race begins at 7:30 a.m., race begins at 9 a.m. Entry fee is $15 for each runner or walker, and only pre-registered entrants are guaranteed a t-shirt and goodie bag. Mount Carmel Jets Cheerleading

Registration, Sunday, May 1 at the old MCA Elementary School gym at Fourth and Vine streets. Girls entering fifth through eighth grades for the 2011 school year can register at 3 p.m., and girls entering second through fourth grades can register at 4 p.m. There is a $40 registration fee and proof of insurance is required. Hunter Trapper Education Classes

At Keystone Fish and Game, May 17 from 6 to 9 p.m., May 19 from 6 to 9 p.m. and May 21 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Pre-registration is required at www.pgc.state.pa.us. For more information, contact Dan Straub at 648-3399.

Devlin Football Camp

New York Jets' assistant coach and former NFL player Mike Devlin will bring his football clinic to Kemp Memorial Stadium on Saturday, June 18 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. It is a non-contact clinic for children entering first through ninth grades for the 2011-12 school year. Cost is $40 per student if registered before May 20, and $45 until June 10, the registration deadline. Register online at www.devlinfootballcamp.com.

Boosters Seeking Donations

The Mount Carmel Teener League Boosters are currently soliciting donations to make additional improvements to the Midway Field at the baseball complex in the Diamondtown section of Mount Carmel Township. Adult members of the boosters will have a letter stating their intentions and proper identification when they solicit donations from merchants in Mount Carmel and Mount Carmel Township and surrounding communities whose children play at the field.
