Kulpmont Football/Baseball Association

Meetings, first Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m.

Coal Runnings

Running club, meets at 5:30 p.m. each Monday at Shamokin Area's Kemp Memorial Stadium parking lot. Open to runners of all ages. More on Facebook at coalrunnings.

Junior Legion Baseball

Tryouts for players ages 13-15 from the Shamokin-Mount Carmel Area Sept. 22, 4 p.m. at the Bunker Hill Field Complex. Tryouts held in September to start the process of practicing together and fund raising for the summer league. Practices will not conflict with school activities. Team will play an 18-game, wooden bat schedule. No fee for tryouts, but a $40 registration fee for players who make the team. Soccer Team Seeks Players

Shamokin based (BDSC) U-13 girls travel soccer team will hold tryouts for the fall season. Practices are held at the Elysburg fields next to McDonald's. Players interested should contact Connie at 570-648-1465.

Special Olympics Programs

Artistic roller skating will be available at The Skatery on Rt. 225 near Line Mountain High School on Saturday mornings from 11:15 a.m. to noon, and bocce will be available at the Milton State Park on Fridays at 6 p.m. and Saturdays at 9 a.m. For more information, visit http://sopanorthumberlandsnyder.shutterfly.com.

SYBL Skills Workout

Skills workout for all players grades 1-4 Wednesdays, 6 p.m., grades 5-8 Thursdays at 6 p.m. at the American Legion gym.

Keystone Chapter Foootball Officials

The Keystone Chapter of PIAA football officials will meet on the following dates at 7 p.m.: Sept. 18, Oct. 2, Oct. 16 and Oct. 30. There is a dinner meeting Sunday, Nov. 18 at the Independence Fire Co. The PIAA requires officials attend at least six chapter meetings.

Fall Volleyball League

The Sunbury YMCA is currently organizing its fall semi-power volleyball league. The league will consist of four-person teams and begin on Thursday, Sept. 13. It will run for approximately eight weeks and costs $65 per team and $20 for each non-member. The first 10 teams to register will be accepted. For more information, call the YMCA at 286-5636.

Knoebel Lumber 5K

The 19th annual Knoebel Lumber 5K race to benefit the Ralpho Township Public Library will be held Saturday, Oct. 6 at Knoebels Amusement Resort. Pre-race registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with the race at 9:30 at Pavilion L. The course is moderately hilly over mixed gravel and asphalt with water at the miles posts and finish. T-shirts are free to the first 200 entrants, with five door prizes worth $25 each for merchandise at Knoebel Lumber, engraved glass plaques to the top three overall males and femals and medals to each of the 20 age group placewinners. Kulpmont Fire Department

Second annual golf tournament, Saturday, Oct. 6, at Indian Hills Golf Club. Tournament is a 4-man scramble with a 1 p.m. shotgun start. Cost is $65 per person or $260 per foursome and includes greens and cart fees, dinner and refreshments back at the East End Fire Company, along with entertainment provided by the Terry Meyer Band. There will be prizes for the top three foursomes, along with longest drive, closest to the pin and pot of gold contests. For more information, contact Marchall Mirarchi III at 570-274-9656.

MCA Supper Club

Mount Carmel Area Supper Club will hold its fall suppers at Mattucci's Thursdays at 6:15 p.m. The club will continue as long as the Red Tornadoes are playing this season.

Northwestern Golf Tourney

The annual Northwestern Academy and Northumberland County Juvenile Court Advisory Board golf tournament will be held Monday, Oct. 8, at Indian Hills Golf and Tennis Club. Registration is 9 a.m. with a shotgun start at 10. Entrance fee is $80 per golfer, which includes scramble, cart, dinner and door prizes. Third Annual Jeff Metza Golf Tournament

The third annual Jeff Metza Memorial Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, Sept. 22, at Hidden Valley Golf Course. Format is two-man scramble, $100 per team. All entrants will be eligible for more than $1000 in door prizes. Checks can be made payable to the Jeff Metza Memorial Fund, 509 Schuylkill St., Schuylkill Haven, Pa., 17972. Ed Romance Chapter Silver Bowl Tailgate

The Ed Romance Hall of Fame is sponsoring a pre-game tailgate party prior to the game at the Silver Bowl between Mount Carmel Area and Central Columbia on Oct. 5 for the 1962 and 1972 Mount Carmel Area high school football teams. Susquehanna Valley Youth Hockey League

Registrations are being accepted for the youth ice hockey development program. In-person registrations are being held Thursday, Sept. 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Selinsgrove Ford on Market St. and 522; Thursday, Sept. 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Union County Public Library in Lewisburg; and Thursday, Oct. 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Degenstein Library in Sunbury. Gridiron Wars Alumni Game

Players are being sought to gauge interest for an alumni football game between Shamokin and Mount Carmel for alumni ages 18-55. Teams must have 30 players registered to participate. The first 15 players for each team to register will get 50 percent off registration fee.

Hall of Fame Teams

The Bernie Romanoski Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame will induct several teams during a breakfast program at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Masser's Banquet Hall, Paxinos. Teams to be honored include the 1959, 1960 and 1961 Shamokin Greyhounds District 4 basketball champions, the 1962 and 1963 Coal Township Purple Demons basketball squads that finished 38-1, Shamokin Area's 1987 District 4 baseball champions, Southern Columbia's 1994-1995 basketball team that captured the Mid-Penn League title and District 4 championship, and Lourdes Regional's 1983 District 4 softball championship squad that posted the only undefeated regular season in school history. Tickets for the program can be obtained by calling Matt Reiprish at 672-9460. Deadline to purchase tickets, which are $20, is Oct. 8. Any questions can be referred to Tom Ryan at 875-2323.

Advanced Ticket Sales

Tickets for the Mount Carmel at Southern Columbia football game on Friday, Sept. 14 will be on sale in the Mount Carmel athletic office starting Tuesday at 10 a.m. and continue until Friday at 11 a.m.

Shamokin Youth Basketball League

Registrations, Saturday, Sept. 15 from 9 a.m. to noon, Sunday, Sept. 16 from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 20 from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 22 from 9 a.m. to noon, Sunday, Sept. 23 from 5 to 7 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 13 from 9 a.m.to noon in the lobby of the Shamokin Community Center (American Legion Building).

Horseshoe Tournament

Fairview Gun Club in Coal Township will host a horseshoe tournament Saturday, Sept. 15. It will be a round robin format tournament.
