Tigers win Heartland III battle

MUNCY - Southern Columbia outscored Muncy, 16-6 in the final quarter Friday to come back and beat the Indians 42-37 in a key Heartland Conference Division III girls basketball game.

Danielle Mowery and Kayla Lavella scored 13 and 12 points, respectively, to lead the Tigers (9-2).

Courtney Ebner scored 12 points to lead Muncy (8-3).

HOMETOWN - Eric Swankoski scored seven of his 12 points in a big fourth-quarter run as the Colts rallied to knock off the Red Raiders in a Division II-III crossover game.

Ryan Karnish drained five 3-pointers and scored a game-high 18 points for Marian, which trailed 34-31 entering the fourth.

Zach Chesney, Matt Savitsky and Mike Menapace each scored 13 points for Lourdes, which fell two games behind Williams Valley in the Division II race. The Red Raiders were hampered by a 5-for-15 effort at the foul line.

COAL TOWNSHIP - The Braves outscored Shamokin 12-4 in the third quarter and held on in the fourth quarter to take the Heartland Athletic Conference Division I win.

Tyler Pratt scored 19 points to lead Shikellamy (9-1, 4-1) and Taylor Mantz added 11 points.

Keiran Kelley and Jarrod Shurock scored 13 and 12 points, respectively, for Shamokin (7-6, 2-3).

MANDATA - Cole Rickert, Coltin Hunsberger and Tim Marciniak all wound up in double figures for Line Mountain, but the Eagles couldn't pull out a victory at home against East Juniata.

Rickert led the way with 11 points, while Hunsberger and Marciniak scored 10 each.

Wrestling

Lansberry in Rock semis

HOLLAND - Line Mountain's Seth Lansberry won two bouts Friday to reach the 138-pound semifinals at the Escape The Rock Tournament at Council Rock South.

Lansberry, after a first round bye, decisioned Bethlehem Catholic's Richy Cruz 3-1 in the second round, then beat Central Mountain's Joey Miller 5-3 in the quarterfinals. He'll wrestle Fort LeBoeuf's Riley Smith in the semifinals.

Mason Zimmerman (126) and Adam Kritzer (152) lost quarterfinal bouts. Also still wrestling in consolation rounds with those two are Cody Rebuck (160), Erik Smeltz (182), Kenny Rothermel (220) and Anthony Peipher (285).
