Mount Carmel has already made history.

Now to remake it.

Having won the first state playoff game in the program's history, Mount Carmel will have a tough task ahead of it when the Red Tornadoes play District 4 champ Loyalsock on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Balls Mills Soccer Complex, above Williamsport.

Mount Carmel defeated Schuylkill Haven, 5-0, Tuesday to get to this game.

"They knew all the hard work finally paid off, but they're not talking about losing," Mount Carmel head coach Rich Miller said.

"We're playing the best soccer we've played all season and it's a good thing to be peaking now."

It's the third meeting of the year for the Tornadoes and Lancers, and both previous matchups were Loyalsock victories.

While the first one was a decisive 4-1 Lancers' win, the second time seeing each other was slightly more to the Tornadoes' liking, although still a 1-0 loss.

"I thought that game gave us a lot of confidence," Miller said.

"The shots were even. The corners and possession were right there, it was just that one goal."

Cassaundra Soars, the unequivocal and quite vocal emotional leader of the Lancers, scored the only goal and received a yellow card in the second meeting but did not play in Loyalsock's district championship game nor the Lancers' first-round state game on Tuesday night. She was however dressed and ready to play if needed according to the Williamsport Sun-Gazette report of the Lancers' 5-0 win over Mountain View.

Miller said she is a game changer and can't be left alone under any circumstance.

"She's a big difference," he said. "She is their key offensive threat. She's fast and if she slips past a tackle and is one-on-one with the goalkeeper it's not good."

With seven shutouts this season and in her fourth year starting, Mount Carmel goalkeeper Megan Van Doren, who has had an outstanding postseason, has seen more than enough of Soars and her teammates.

Fortunately for the Red Tornadoes, they have a gamebreaker or two of their own.

Senior Ranotta Ahrensfield has scored 29 goals so far this season and is one goal away from 100 for her career. Ahrensfield has also shared the ball this season to the tune of eight assists.

After missing the first six games with a leg injury, sophomore Ali Varano is second for the Tornadoes with 22 goals and also has eight assists.

Freshman Jen Bolick has also been quite the spark for Mount Carmel with 15 goals and leads the team with 10 assists.

Seniors Taylor Getty and Amanda Kuzo have also been instrumental in pushing the Tornadoes' attack and have eight and six assists, respectively.
