MANDATA - Line Mountain's boys soccer team tied its school record for wins in a season Wednesday with a 6-0 shutout over Weatherly, and now look to achieve an even bigger goal - making the District 4 playoffs for the first time.
Carl Pollard and Falconer Walshaw-Wertz each scored two goals, and Pollard assisted on one as Line Mountain improved to 6-6 overall, 4-6 in the Schuylkill League.
Blaine Klinger and Tyler Strause scored the other goals.
"The team played very well tonight," said Line Mountain head coach Shawn Walshaw-Wertz. "We had good passing in the second half. We need three more wins and we have to be aware of the teams we're playing. You have to win the games you can win."
The Eagles were never in much trouble against the Wreckers. Walshaw-Wertz scored on an assist from Pollard less than four minutes into the game and before the game was over, the Eagles peppered Weatherly goalie Samson Walton with 33 shots.
"We've continued to improve all season," said Walshaw-Wertz. "We've had a couple of injuries, but we've still managed to play some really good games against teams like Halifax and Schuylkill Haven, even though we lost, and we beat a good Tri-Valley team.
"Doc Gaugler has really stepped up for us at goalkeeper. He's made some top-notch saves and has really kept us in a lot of games."
Gaugler made two first-half saves against Weatherly, then gave way to Dylan Buddock in the second half while going to midfield to play. He had an assist on the Eagles' final goal.
"Tyler Strause has given us a lot of leadership, particulary off the field, in making sure guys get to practice and do what they're supposed to do, and Falconer and Pollard upfront have really helped us offensively," said Walshaw-Wertz.
Line Mountain plays at Lourdes on Saturday.
