Tigers top Benton

BENTON - Southern Columbia's McKenna Lupold took a pass from Taylor Hoffman and scored with 6:35 left in the game to push the Tigers to a 3-2 victory over Benton in Heartland Conference field hockey action.

Sara Breach and Miranda Long also scored for Southern, which improved its overall record to 4-5-1. Hoffman had two assists.

JIM THORPE - Evan Hollen paced the Spartans with two goals as they defeated the Olympians for their third straight victory.

Jim Thorpe's Justin Kaminski stopped a dozen shots, and North Schuylkill's Matt Roberts finished with nine saves.

COAL TOWNSHIP - Trailing 4-0 against once-beaten Selinsgrove, Shamokin cut the lead to 4-3 with three goals in a 12-minute span before the Seals' Jake Marion scored an insurance goal.

Shamokin dropped to 1-7. Selinsgrove improved to 8-1.

COAL TOWNSHIP - The host Indians took out the visiting Indians in straight sets, 25-13, 25-8, 25-15.

Kelsey Yacko and Olivia Bonshock had 11 and six kills, respectively, for Shamokin, and Anna Summers had 12 assists.

For Millersburg, Marissa Hine had five service points and four aces.

Shamokin JVs won, 2-0.

Tri-Valley 3, Lourdes 1

COAL TOWNSHIP - Schuylkill League Division III leader Tri-Valley downed the Red Raiders, 25-10, 18-25, 25-16, 25-10, at Lourdes.

Tri-Valley won the JV match, 2-0.

North Schuylkill 3 Saucon Valley 1

FOUNTAIN SPRINGS - Rachel Stankiewitch gave the Spartans the lift they needed with 13 kills and four blocks during a 3-1 win (25-27, 26-24, 25-16, 27-25) that saw three sets decided by just two points.

Trailing 18-11 in Game 4, Stankiewitch collected herself after a timeout and went on a key six-point service run that gave North Schuylkill a chance to pull out the win. The Spartans won Game 2 on an errant pass by Saucon Valley.

North Scuylkill's Nadya Spotts finished with 40 assists and 17 digs, while Jess McGinn added 12 kills and 11 digs.

North Schuykill won JV 2-0.

MANDATA - Paige Adams scored twice, once in each half, leading Line Mountain to the non-league victory over the Green Dragons on homecoming day.

Chelsea Lahr assisted on four of the Eagles' five goals.
