Harrisburg's Chad Layton scored a convincing win in the sprint car feature at Port Royal Speedway Saturday night.
Layton's first win of the season in the Dave Middleswarth-owned sprinter paid $3,000 to win. He started on the pole and led all 25 laps.
Layton held back Ryan Taylor on an early race restart and then drove away as they raced through lapped traffic.
"The car was real good," Layton said. "I have to thank everybody that stands behind me."
It was Layton's first win since he won the Dream Race at Port Royal Speedway in early August last season.
Tower City's Mark Smith drove from seventh to second. Lance Dewease started eighth and finished third. Greg Hodnett drove from the rear after being involved in a first lap crash to finish fourth. Daryn Pittman was fifth.
Selinsgrove's Dylan Yoder earned $1,500 for his win in the 25-lap late model championship race. Scotty Haus and Chris Shuey followed Yoder.
The Living Legends Dream Race paying $12,000 to win for the sprint cars, will be held this Saturday at Port Royal. The event will honor Hall of Fame driver Keith Kauffman and former car owner Walt Dyer.
Bill Stine of Mechanicsburg scored his first career sprint car
win at Lincoln Speedway on Saturday night over teenager Derek Sell and Jim Siegel. Kevin Nagy scored the 358 sprint win.
Scott Geesey of Wellsville won his first career super sportsman feature over Chris Meleason and Rich Eichelberger. Steve Clabaugh won the 358 late models and David Walsh won the street stocks.
The racing programs at Big Diamond Raceway and Williams Grove Speedway were rained out Friday night.
Selinsgrove Speedway took the weekend off and returns to action on Saturday night with the $5,000 to win late model open sanctioned by the All Stars. The total purse is over $19,000.
The 358 sprints, pro stocks and roadrunners join the late models. Racing begins at 7:30.
This year's open will mark the first time the race will be sanctioned by a national touring group.
Chris Shuey won the first one in 1999. Danville's Jeff Rine is a four-time winner. Other winners have included Kenny Pettyjohn, Dale Kerstetter, Jeff Smith, Scotty Haus and Nick Dickson. Dan Stone won last year's event.
Selinsgrove's Jim Yoder leads the late model point standings by 15 over Rine. Three-time winner Blane Heimbach leads TJ Stutts in the 358 sprint point standings by 130 and five-time winner Pat Cannon by 175.
