MANDATA - Line Mountain sophomores Tori Wolfe and Joelle Snyder combined for 31 points Friday night in a Tri-Valley East matchup against Halifax.
The problem for the Eagles (0-2) was that accounted for 74 percent of the teams points, playing a large part in the 64-42 loss to the Wildcats (3-1).
Wolfe scored 18 points, including three treys, and Snyder contributed 13 points. Getting scoring from other options proved difficult for Line Mountain.
Morgan Hunsberger had seven points. The next highest Line Mountain scorer was Noel Lagerman with two.
"We need players to crash the boards," Eagles coach Kam Traugh said on the scoring issues. "Halifax had at least eight points in the first half off offensive rebounds."
While scoring was an issue for Line Mountain, it was the opposite for the Wildcats. The Cats had five scorers with seven or more points, led by Brynn Miller with 16.
The Halifax scorers started to pull away from Line Mountain in the second quarter, scoring 20 points in the eight minutes and taking a 12-point lead into the half.
However, at one point in the second quarter, the Eagles only trailed by three points, but couldn't keep up with Halifax as time wore on.
"We need better conditioning," Traugh said. "We lost two days with snow. The energy that we had in the first half we need to take into the second."
Most of Halifax's oppurtunities came on turnovers. The Cats played a man-to-man defensive game, and in the second quarter started to put more pressure on the Eagles whenever they tried to check the ball in.
"The girls put their head down and didn't realize where the Halifax players were which led to turnovers," Traugh said. "Most of those turnovers led to them scoring points."
The Wildcats continued their run in the third quarter, outscoring the Eagles 15-7, then cruising in the fourth quarter to hold onto the lead.
