DELAWARE, Ohio - Lebanon Valley College senior Cynthia Adams capped a decorated outdoor track & field career with an all-America finish in the 800m Saturday at the NCAA Championships at Ohio Wesleyan University.
Adams finished seventh in 2:12.67 to earn her second career all-America award and first outdoors. She had qualified for finals with the second-fastest time in the field, running a two-second PR and program record of 2:09.31 on Friday to make it in behind only champion Christy Cazzola of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, who defended her national title with an NCAA-record 2:05.43.
Adams settled in to the middle of the pack off the start and stayed in contact with the leaders through to a quick opening 400m of 1:02, but a move by Cazzola fractured the field in the backstretch and Adams closed seventh. Adams' opening split was 1:04.01.
Having previously taken all-American honors at the 2013 indoor meet, Adams became only the second student-athlete in program history to do it both indoors and outdoors, joining LVC Hall of Fame thrower Ann Musser Davis who did the double in both 1998 and 1999.
She is the fifth all-American in women's outdoor track & field. Although she still has an indoor season of eligibility remaining, she closes her outdoor career as a four-time Middle Atlantic Conference champion, LVC and MAC recordholder, and four-time NCAA qualifier in the 800m run.
