Mark Smith of Sunbury continued his winning ways Saturday night at Selinsgrove Speedway with a win against the Empire Super Sprints.
Smith already had the points lead entering the night and extended that with his $3,000 win - the third of the season and eighth of his career.
Duane Mausteller of Bloomsburg was injured in a crash during the sprint car feature. Mausteller had to be airlifted to Geisinger Medical Center. No details about his condition were available as of Sunday evening. Jamie Collard, a regular with the ESS series, was also seriously injured in the crash that occurred at the end of the backstretch entering turn three.
T.J. Stutts of Liverpool took the lead at the start over Cody Keller. Smith was up to third following the third lap crash. Following a lap 10 restart, Smith and Pat Cannon drove by Keller for second and third. Smith tracked down Stutts and the racing got a little too close for the lead as contact was made and Stutts went spinning.
Smith controlled the rest of the race and won by 2.2 seconds over defending track champion Jason Shultz, Keller, Cannon and Steve Poirier.
Jeff Rine of Danville returned to late model victory lane for the second time this season and 87th of his career at Selinsgrove. Rine's win came over Dave Zona, Bryan Bernheisel, Andy Haus and Steve Campbell.
Kyle Bachman of Selinsgrove won the 15-lap pro stock feature over Brad Mitch and Adam Campbell, and Brian Johnson of Ashland won the 12 lap roadrunner feature.
The next race at Selinsgrove Speedway will be the Ray Tilley Classic for 410 sprint cars at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 25. The super sportsman and 305 sprint cars will join the 410 sprint cars for the open wheel tripleheader. Track gates will open at 5 p.m. There will be no racing at the big track Saturday night due to a special go kart race.
The World of Outlaw sprint car series rolled into Williams Grove Speedway this weekend and defending series champion Daryn Pittman rolled out with $25,000 after sweeping the weekend.
Pittman led all 25 laps Friday night and 30 laps Saturday night. His Friday night win was worth $8,000. His fifth series win of the season Saturday was worth $12,000, plus a special $5,000 bonus for being the Morgan Cup champion.
Pittman's win Friday came over fellow Outlaws Joey Saldana and Donny Schatz, while Saturday's win was over Pennsylvania drivers Donnie Kreitz and Lucas Wolfe.
At Lincoln Speedway Wednesday
night, it was Stevie Smith winning over the Outlaws in a car owned by retired Hall of Fame driver Fred Rahmer. It was Smith's first win for Rahmer since joining the team this year. Also, Rahmer's 18-year-old son Freddie made the show in his first start against the Outlaws. Smith beat Greg Hodnett and Pittman.
The racing program at Big Diamond Speedway in Minersville was rained out Friday night.
Port Royal Speedway didn't race Saturday night, but returns this week with Fallen Heroes Championship Night featuring higher paying events for the 410 sprints, super late models and 305 sprints.
