Panko claims tourney crown

BLOOMSBURG - Blake Panko won the 152-pound championship for Mount Carmel Saturday at the Darren Klingerman Invitational Tournament at Bloomsburg University.

Panko pinned Tamaqua's Hunter Matalavage in the quarterfinals in 2:27, decisioned Montgomery's Thomas Goetz 5-1 in the semifinals, and was a 9-2 winner over Canton's Travis Butcher in the final.

Allen Yancoskie (182) finished fifth and Lane Tanney (106) for the Red Tornadoes, who finished 12th in the team standings.

Earlston wins Top Hat

WILLIAMSPORT - Freshman Brian Earlston

won the the 113-pound championship final for Line Mountain at the Top Hat Invitational.

Earlston had a major decision over Central Mountain's Ryan Moore, a pin of Red Lion's Morgan Schaszberger and a pin over South Western's Gavin Smith to reach the final. In the final he decisioned Tri-Valley's Sammy Hepler, 9-6.

Collin Klinger (106) dec. Hughesville's Brandon Stahlnecker 1-0 and Cameron Newman (120) beat Hollidaysburg's Damien Huff, 9-6, in third-place bouts. Blake Carl (132) had a major devcision over Montoursville's Jacob Strassner 10-2 for fifth, and Rayce Boyer (195) won by injury default over Bald Eagle Area's David Guryla.

Brendan Renn (182) took seventh.

Central Mountain nipped South Western 168.5-168 for the team title.

MOUNT CARMEL - Ali Varano scored 21 points and Anna Raybuck 13 as Mount Carmel opened its season with romp over Northeast Bradford.

The Red Tornadoes pulled away from a 12-point halftime lead by outscoring the Panthers 35-16 in the second half.

Angelee Laudermilch scored 16 points for Northeast Bradford.
