Shamokin-Mount Carmel American Legion team will open the Susquehanna Valley League playoffs at Sunbury-Northumberland today at 5:30 p.m. at Pine Knotter Park in Northumberland.
S-MC, the No. 6 seed, finished with an 8-8 record and lost both its league games to Sunbury/Norry.
S-MC finished tied with Bloomsburg and West Snyder for the fourth-best record in the league, but fell in the bracket on the strength of the second tiebreaker - runs given up in head-to-head matchups with the other teams. Shamokin-Mount Carmel gave up 20 runs in a total of four games with Bloomsburg and West Snyder, while West Snyder allowed 15 and Bloomsburg just 10. Those two teams will play each other at Bloomsburg today at 5:30 p.m.
Line Mountain, the last team into the playoffs, will play No. 1 seed Berwick today, while the winner of the S-MC and Sunbury-Norry game will play the winner of Danville and Selinsgrove in the next round of the double elimination tournament.
