Coal Runnings

Little League Registration
Any child ages four to 12 residing in the Shamokin Area or Mount Carmel Area School Districts may register to play Little League Baseball. Registration for players and coaches will be Feb. 23, 10 a.m. to noon, and Feb. 27, 7-9 p.m. at the Miller Donmoyer Family Health Center, 255 W. Spruce St., Shamokin. All players must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, and any player new to the league must bring the child's original or state-certified birth certificate. Fee is $25 for the first child and $15 for each additional child in the same family. After Feb. 27, the fee is $40 for the first child and $20 for each additional child in the same family.
Lady Bombers Girls Softball League
The league will be having an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner, Saturday, Feb. 23, at Restoration Ministries Church Hall from 3 to 7 p.m. Cost is $8 per ticket and includes salad, spaghetti with meat sauce, bread, fruit cup, baked good and drink. Mahanoy Area Biddy Basketball
Annual tournaments, March 15-17 for 3rd-4th grade boys, 5th-6th grade boys and 7th-8th grade girls, and April 19-21 for 3rd-4th grade girls, 5th-6th grade girls and 7th-8th grade boys. Cost is $125 for 3rd-4th grade teams, and $150 for 5th-6th and 7th-8th grade teams. Contact Robert McGee at 294-2044 for information or to register teams.
Shamokin Youth Softball
Open gym practice for youth girls softball ages eight to 14 of the Shamokin Area School District will be held at the annex gym on the following Sundays: Feb. 24 and March 10. Girls ages eight to 10 will meet from 4 to 5:15 p.m. and girls 11 to 14 will meet from 5:15 to 6:30 p.m. All girls must attend the Shamokin Area School District.
Ed Romance Hall of Fame
The 35th annual banquet for the Ed Romance Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame will be held March 23. Tickets are available by calling Frank Niglio at 205-0762 or by visiting Community Pharmacy.
South Columbia Little League
Any child from South Columbia Little League areas, which includes: Catawissa, Roaring Creek Valley and Ralpho areas, who have not yet registered for baseball or softball for the 2013 Little League season, please contact Gary Stine 394-2640. Initial fee is $15 per child, uniform and fundraising fees are additional. Copies of birth certificate and three proofs of residency are required.
Instructional Baseball Clinic
Saturday, March 9, 9 a.m. to noon, at the Shamokin Area High School gym. Open to any child, ages 4-12. Fee is $10. Each child receives a t-shirt. Instructors include local baseball experts. Registration may be completed at the Shamokin-Mount Carmel Little League registrations or by calling 644-5050, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday. Deadline to register is Feb. 27.
Ralpho Tiger Youth Basketball
Basketball tournaments, for third and fourth grades, March 8-10; and for fifth and sixth grades, March 15-17 are being organized now. Games will be played in Elysburg, and entry fee is $150. Deadline for entry is March 1. For rules and an application, contact William Wetzel at 527-0339.
Long's Teener Baseball

ASA SVL League Meeting
Feb. 24, 6 p.m. at the ASA of PA Hall of Fame Training Center, 311 Race St., Sunbury. Leagues will be held for 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U and 18U. Games will be played at the Persing Recreational Complex, N. Fourth St., Sunbury.
Girardville Biddy Basketball

Wildlife presentation
A wildlife presentation featuring Ray Roth and his Kansas whitetail, plus other Pennsylvania trophy bucks will be held Saturday, Feb. 23, at 5 p.m. at St. Peter's United Church of Christ (the Blue Church), located at the intersection of Blue Church Road and Airport Road, Paxinos, Other presentations will include Pastor Paul Gurba's powerpoint display of more than 300 slides of turkey, bear and trophy buck and a trophy whitetail display from Ray Petro. A spaghetti dinner will be served at the conclusion of the program.
Shamokin Youth Volleyball

Pennsylvania District 13 Little League Umpires
Baseball and softball umpires clinic, Saturday, April 6, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Central Columbia Middle School. Registration is 8-9 a.m. Pre-registration is required. Susquehanna University Youth Basketball Tournaments
