HUGHESVILLE - Ali Varano scored 22 points and Christina Perles 18 as Mount Carmel's girls basketball team prepped for its Heartland Conference playoff game with Danville tonight with a 66-39 win over Hughesville on Tuesday.

The Red Tornadoes (18-3) play Danville in the Heartland semifinals tonight at 6 at Mifflinburg.

Lexy Avery scored nine points to lead the Spartans (1-20).

COAL TOWNSHIP - Lewisburg won eight of 12 events but the Indians had more placewinners to win the Heartland Conference meet.

Mike Rodarmel (50 freestyle), Jon Koons (diving), and Josh Scheuren (500 freestyle) were winners for the Indians, as well as the 200 freestyle relay.

Adon Shapiro (200 freestyle, 100 freestyle) and Michael Sumfest (200 IM, 100 breaststroke) were double winners for the Green Dragons.
