MAHANOY CITY - Shamokin Area swept Mahanoy Area 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-19) in high school volleyball Tuesday to raise its record to 9-3 and clinch a spot in the District 4 playoffs.
Kelsey Yacko led the way for the Indians with 19 kills. Caitlin Pancher had six kills and Ashley Huxta 20 assists for the Indians.
Alyssa Hay had 10 digs for the Golden Bears (2-11) while Mychaellah Lucas had six kills and three digs and Marcella Scheeler had one ace, five kills and three blocks.
Shamokin won the junior varsity match 2-0.

COAL TOWNSHIP - Ania Rawa had eight kills and nine service points to lead the Red Raiders to a 25-23, 26-24, 25-15 sweep of the Hurricanes. Caity Funk had nine kills and six service points, including five aces. Angelique Pennypacker had nine kills, and Peyton Klembara had five service points including three aces, and four digs. Nicole Purcell had eight service points and six assists.
Schuylkill Haven won the JV game, 2-1.

COAL TOWNSHIP - Ryan Rompolski scored the game-winning goal on a direct kick with less than three minutes to play and assisted on another as the Indians (9-5, 6-4 Heartland Division II) qualified for a district playoff spot with the win.

COAL TOWNSHIP - Shamokin and Southern's dual meet score came down to the wire in a Heartland Conference meet which included Lewisburg, Danville, Hughesville and Midd-West with the Indians beating the Tigers, 25-30.
Samantha Carpenter was Shamokin's top finisher with a time of 23:02, while Sam Romania finished one place behind her for Southern.
