MCA duo wins at relays

POTTSVILLE - Mount Carmel had one team win gold at the Schuylkill Relays in Pottsville before the weather forced the remainder of the meet to be canceled Friday.

The pole vault team of Gabby Engelke and Nicole Fiamoncini combined to post a mark of 17 feet, 6 inches and beat second-place Hazleton by six inches.

North Schuylkill's shuttle hurdle team of Chris Karlonis, Mike McGrath, Tyler Matunis and Daniel McSurdy won by a second over Pottsville.

Baseball

Rain played havoc on the diamond as well.

Mount Carmel's game at Central Columbia was suspended in the top of the seventh with a score tied 7-7 a Red Tornadoes' runner on first with two outs. Plans have not been made to finish the game yet.

Neither Southern Columbia's no Line Mountain's games got started. The Tigers game at Montgomery was rescheduled for Tuesday, May 15 at 4:30 p.m.

Line Mountain's home game with Williams Valley was rescheduled for Tuesday, May 8 at 4:30 p.m.
