8 advance to regional semis

WILLIAMSPORT - Eight area wrestlers advanced to the semifinals at the Class AA Northeast Regional Tournament at Williamsport High School on Friday.

Line Mountain's Cameron Newman (106), Mason Zimmerman (126), Seth Lansberry (132), Adam Kritzer (145) and Cody Rebuck (160) advanced, along with Mount Carmel's Meyrick Lamb (160) and Brett Przekop (170), and Southern Columbia's Kent Lane (120).

Quarterfinal losers but still alive in the tournament were Line Mountain's Britton Heim (152) and Erik Smeltz (182), and Southern Columbia's Matt Moore (195) and Jake Becker (220).

Line Mountain is second in the team standings, trailing Mifflinburg (15.5) with 15 points.

Rebuck had arguably the biggest win, nipping District 2 champ Nick Shelley of Lake-Lehman 5-4. Rebuck scored a reversal late in the second period for the lead, then fought off a late reversal attempt by Shelley in the third period.

Rebuck (31-14) will wrestle Mifflinburg's Ty Walter (21-2) in the semfinals.

"It crossed my mind to let him escape and go into overtime," Rebuck said. "But I wanted to end it there. We were both pretty tired."

Rebuck earned points for honesty in evaluating his match with Walter.

"I'm not looking forward to it, to be honest with you," he said. "He tech falled me at sectionals."

Newman got the evening started well with a pin in 1:28 of Hanover Area's Brad Glazenski. The Line Mountain freshman (27-14) will take on District 4 champ Tyrus Hamblin (31-1) of Williamson in the semifinals.

Lane (30-4) had an impressive quarterfinal win, 10-6 over Meyers' Justin Elick (32-6) at 120 and will face District 4 champ Cole Walter (33-4) of Mifflinburg in the semis.

Zimmerman (31-11) was a 14-2 quarterfinal winner over Meyers' Kashif Alston, earning a date in the 126 semifinals against District 2 champ Austin Harry (33-1) of Lake-Lehman.

Lansberry (37-3) made quick work of Western Wayne's Morgan Fuller with a 42-second pin at 132. He

takes on District 2 champ Andrew Schutz (28-2) of Wyoming Area in the semifinals.

Kritzer (35-6) decisioned Elk Lake's Derrick Smith 7-2 at 145 and will face Wyalusing's Joe Champluvier (29-11) in the semis. Champluvier, fifth at the district meet, pinned District 2 champion Darren Stucker of Meyers.

The area win streak ended when Lake-Lehman's Bryan Carter decisioned Heim 6-2 at 152. Heim (18-16) will wrestle Valley View's Mike Cipilewski in the wrestlebacks.

Lamb (23-7), continuing his solid wrestling from last week, pinned Dallas' Bill Dixon in 27 seconds. He'll take on Central Columbia's unbeaten Kurt Meske (35-0) in the semifinals.

Przekop (27-2) earned a 6-0 win over Dallas' Connor Martinez and will face District 2 champ Marvess Rosiak of Lackawanna Trail in the 170 semifinals.

Rosiak (38-5) defeated Smeltz (22-12) 8-1. Smeltz will wrestle Martinez in the consolation round.

Moore (16-10) was pinned in 36 seconds by defending state runner-up Ryan Solomon of Milton at 195, and will take on Nanticoke's Pedro Bracero in the consolation round.

Becker (24-7) was pinned by 2010 state champ Eric Laytos of Lackawanna Trail and will wrestle GAR's Zac Faust in the consolations.

Wrestling starts at 9:30 this morning with semifinals and consolations being done simultaneously.
