As expected, Mount Carmel Area and Line Mountain were the top seeds in their respective classes when the District 4 postseason girls basketball brackets were released Sunday.
The Red Tornadoes (22-0) sit atop a 10-team bracket and receive an opening-round bye. They will eventually meet the winner of the opening-round matchup between No. 8 Lewisburg and No. 9 Wellsboro, Saturday, with site and time of the Mount Carmel opener still to be determined.
Southern Columbia is the No. 4 seed and will meet No. 5 seed South Williamsport on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Danville.
In girls Class A, No. 1 Line Mountain (22-0) will open Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Shamokin Area against No. 8 seed St. John Neumann. Lourdes Regional is the No. 2 seed in the eight-team bracket and opens Friday at 6 p.m. at Montoursville against No. 7 seed Mansfield.
In girls Class AAA, Shamokin Area earned the No. 2 seed, received an opening-round bye and will open Tuesday, Feb. 28 against the winner of the opening-round matchup between No. 3 Selinsgrove and No. 6 Shikellamy. Site and time for the Indians' opener remains to be determined.
On the boys side, Southern Columbia earned the No. 5 seed in the 12-team Class AA bracket and opens Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Danville (in the second game of a doubleheader with the Southern girls) against No. 12 seed Central Columbia.
In Class A, Lourdes Regional is the No. 7 seed in a seven-team bracket and opens Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Montoursville against No. 2 seed Mansfield. That game is also part of a doubleheader with the Lourdes girls playing in the opener.
In Class AAA, Shamokin Area is the No. 4 seed in a four-team bracket. The Indians will face No. 1 Danville in a semifinal Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Shikellamy.
